Silent Auction at Christmas Bazaar

The 47th Annual Christmas Bazaar at Drexel First Church of God in Drexel, NC includes a Silent Auction, Needlework, Crafts, a Food Court serving breakfast and lunch, and Dinner with Entertainment. Dinner will be served at 5:00 and at 6:30 PM (and carry-outs are available).

I am donating several prints of my paintings and possibly an original to put up for auction in the Silent Auction. All proceeds from the sales go to ministry and missions. If you would like to bid on any of them, the doors open at 8:00 AM on Saturday, December 5, 2009.

Seascape in Progress

I have put in the waves and the outline for the cliff. I should be adding the rocks on the cliff and some of the grass next. I will put the lighthouse in at the end I think.

Start of 2nd Lighthouse Painting

This is the background of my second lighthouse painting. This time, I wanted to have the ocean in the background. I chose to do a stormy scene because I thought it would be more interesting. I was surprised at how hard it was to get the colors toned down enough for it to look stormy. I reworked the background a few times because the sky looked too blue and the ocean looked too blue-green. I am trying to go for realism here, and sometimes the "real world" is pretty gray.

Down on the Farm

I painted this for my friend, Candace. She wanted a painting of a red or white barn. I went back and forth between this and another painting for awhile. It took me awhile to decide which one I thought she would like best. I decided on the one from a distance, looking at the barn and the farm as well. I hope she likes it!

Paintings for Noah's Room

I recently started some commission work for Kelly. She wanted some paintings for her baby Noah's room. The paintings are based on a quilt that she bought for his crib. The pictures of the quilt and the crib are below. The biggest challenge of this project was color matching. I only have about 8 colors in my alkyd oil set and I had to do a lot of color mixing! The colors seemed to match pretty well in the end - although it is hard to tell from the pictures because of the lighting.

Anchored At Carrot Island

I just finished this painting tonight around 9:30. I call it "Anchored At Carrot Island". I finally got the water reflections how I wanted them after re-doing them a few times. The sailboats were also a challenge. The scene brings back memories of Beaufort and the coast - which Brandon and I visit pretty frequently.

The Start of my First Alkyd Painting

This is the start of my first painting using Alkyd Oil Paints. So far, I really enjoy using them. It is amazing how much faster they dry than regular oil paints. I started another painting just using the Liquin Medium with regular oil paints. While it dried a little faster than regular oil, I decided to jump in and get alkyd paints as well. (That is what I am using here.) They are dry to the touch in about 18-24 hours. I have been using more glazing techniques since the layers take less time to dry.

This photo was taken when my husband and I traveled to Beaufort, NC. It is facing Carrot Island across the sound. The painting should be patterned after the photo for the most part.

Barn Paintings in Progress

I am painting two different barns right now - both 12"x16" Oil on Canvas. One is for a friend, although I have not decided which one yet. One will be close up and a little more impressionistic, and the other is a view from farther away.

Bodie Island Lighthouse At Sunset

I recently finished painting “Bodie Island Lighthouse At Sunset”. It is my favorite piece so far. I traveled to the Outer Banks of North Carolina this summer and my mother took a picture of the lighthouse just as the sun was setting and the light was coming on. I loved the colors and the scene so much that I decided to paint it. It is on display and for sale in the Jailhouse Gallery in Morganton, NC right now. However, please let me know if you are interested in buying it. It is at the gallery along with 2 more of my most recent paintings, “Setting Sail” and “Morning Fog”.
